Store credit: deposits, refunds and goodwill
Put money ON a guest’s account — a deposit, a refund kept as credit, or a sorry-about-that — and spend it at the till.

Store credit is the mirror image of a tab: the guest is in credit with you. It’s how you keep a refund in the family, take a deposit for a party, or make up for a bad night without handing over cash.
The scenario
Omar’s birthday dinner went wrong — the kitchen lost his mains and the table waited forty minutes. You want to give him 50 to come back with, and you want it to be one tap for whoever serves him next time.
Add the credit
- 1Open Omar in CRM › Customers and press Adjust balance. (You can also do this from the ⋯ menu on his row.)
- 2The dialog shows Current balance. Choose Add funds and enter 50 under Amount; New balance previews 50.00.
- 3Add a note — Goodwill, lost mains on 12 Sept — and press Add 50.00 (the button carries the amount). You’ll see Balance updated.
Spend it, two weeks later
- 1Omar’s next check comes to 64.00. The waiter adds him to the check.
- 2At payment, Balance shows 50.00 available. Take 50 on Balance, then 14 on card.
- 3Two payments, one settled check. His balance is back to 0.00.
The three things people use this for
- A refund the guest keeps as credit — instead of cash back, Adjust balance by the refunded amount with a note. The money stays with you and the guest comes back to spend it.
- A deposit for a booking — take the deposit as a positive adjustment when they book; on the night, the Balance tender spends it against the bill.
- Goodwill — like Omar. A note explaining why is what turns a number into a story your staff can repeat.
TipPositive number = money in. Negative number = money out. If you need to take credit back — a deposit forfeited on a no-show — enter it as −50 with a note; the ledger keeps both entries side by side.
