Loyalty points: how they’re earned and spent
One point per unit spent, ten points to the unit when redeemed — and how to adjust or redeem by hand.
2 min read
Points reward the guests who keep coming back. They build up on their own from what a customer spends; you only step in to redeem them or to correct something.
How the maths works
- Earning — every 1 of currency spent on a settled check earns 1 point, as long as the customer is on the check when it settles. A 68.00 dinner earns 68 points.
- Value — points are worth 0.10 each when redeemed. 100 points = 10.00 off.
- Refunds — a refund doesn’t take points back on its own; if the guest shouldn’t keep them, use Adjust points › Redeem or deduct. A check earns points only once, so paying, refunding and paying again never earns twice.
The scenario
Layla has 520 points after a few months of Friday dinners. Tonight’s bill is 75.00 and she asks to use her points.
Redeem them
- 1Open Layla under CRM › Customers and press Adjust points. The dialog shows Current balance 520 pts.
- 2Choose Redeem or deduct and enter 500 under How many points. That’s worth 50.00.
- 3Add a note — Redeemed against check #1042 — and press Deduct 500 points. You’ll see Loyalty updated and 20 pts remaining.
- 4On the POS, take the 50.00 off the bill as a discount, and settle the remaining 25.00 as normal.
When you’d add points by hand
- A missed check — she paid before the waiter added her. Adjust by +75 with the check number in the note.
- A welcome bonus — +100 for joining, if that’s your promise.
- A correction — a wrong redemption is undone by adding the same number back. Two ledger lines, no mystery.
TipPoints only accrue when the customer is on the check at the moment it settles. Train the team to add the customer before payment, not after — afterwards, it’s a manual adjustment.
