Which phones and tablets are connected, how they reach the main terminal, and what still waits on them — on the main terminal’s Settings and on POS › Devices.
4 min read
An Android phone or tablet that works offline holds its changes until it reaches the main terminal. Two places show where each one stands: Devices in the main terminal’s settings, and the Paired terminals table on POS › Devicesin the dashboard.
The scenario
Closing time. Nadia is about to count the drawer, but Tablet B went out to the terrace at 2 pm and nobody has seen it since. Did it take orders the main terminal hasn’t got?
On the main terminal
- 1On the Mac or Windows main terminal, open ≡ › Settings. Under Connection, the Devices row says how many are connected and who is away — “7 connected · Tablet B not seen since 2:00 pm”. (The row appears once a phone or tablet on app 1.2.0 or later has checked in.)
- 2Tap it. Every phone and tablet of the branch is listed with its kind and version — “Android tablet · POS 1.2.0” — how it reaches this main terminal — “Wi‑Fi · just now”, “Cloud · 1 min ago” or “Not seen since 2:00 pm” — and what still waits on it: “3 waiting” or Nothing waiting.
- 3Under the list, a note names the device that is away with changes: “Tablet B last reported 3 changes waiting. They are safe on it and arrive the moment it’s back — once each.”
- 4Press Ask every device to check in: every device connected to this main terminal reports straight away (one that reaches only the cloud, within about 30 seconds). While it’s open, the list also refreshes by itself every 10 seconds.
In the dashboard
- 1Open POS › Devices and pick the branch. In Paired terminals, every phone and tablet on app 1.2.0 or later fills two columns: Connection — “Main terminal Wi‑Fi” or “Through the cloud”, and while it’s away how it was last connected (“Last: Main terminal Wi‑Fi”); the main terminal’s own row says “This is the main terminal” — and Waiting: “5 waiting” or “Nothing”.
- 2Health says Offline with “not seen since 2:00 pm” for one that has stopped checking in, and Software shows “Android · POS 1.2.0”, adding “an update waits for it” when a newer app is out.
A device’s connection log (owners)
- 1Signed in as the restaurant’s owner, each device in the main terminal’s Devices list says how its connection went today — “No drops today”, “2 drops today · offline 3 min · longest 2 min”, or with a last error “4 drops · offline 1 h 12 min · last error: main terminal not answering”. In the dashboard’s Connection column it reads “2 drops · 3 min offline”. Staff never see these lines.
- 2Tap a device on the main terminal — or, in the dashboard, Connection log under a device with trouble — for its Connection log: today’s Drops today, Offline in all, Longest drop and Last error, then what happened in plain words, newest first — “Wi‑Fi dropped 12:40 · back 12:41”, “Switched to the cloud · 13:58”, “Back on the main terminal · 14:02”. Filter it with All, Wi‑Fi, Route, Sync, Restarts or Errors.
- 3Press Get full log. The device sends its log the next time it checks in — usually within a minute (“Asked Tablet B for its full log”). When it arrives, Full log arrived says when and how much, with Download; send the file to support if something keeps going wrong. The day’s timeline comes from the last log the device sent.
What you’ll see
- Waiting changes are safe on the device. Once Tablet B is back on the Wi‑Fi, its changes arrive within seconds — each one once — and its row says Nothing waiting.
- A device that is off or out of range shows when it was last seen, so nobody closes the drawer without knowing.
TipCheck Devices before you count the drawer. Cash a tablet took offline lands on the shift that was open when it was taken — even if that shift has been closed since, its expected cash is worked out again. Bring the tablet back onto the Wi‑Fi first, and never uninstall the app or clear its data while it has changes waiting.
