Making the POS look and behave the way your staff want
Seven order screens, category levels, Night, Lines or Rounded, photo or text tiles, Quick add, and how the kitchen display and drawer open.

The POS has a handful of settings that change how the order screen feels — and a live preview so you can see each one before staff do. They live in one place: POS › Settings, on the Layouttab.
The scenario
Your bar staff work in low light and want a dark till. Your counter staff know the menu by heart and want everything on one screen. Same restaurant, different tills.
The settings, and what each does
- Order screen — seven styles, all with the same buttons and flows: Categories first (the default: big category cards, then the dishes, ticket beside the menu), Classic (category tabs on top, dish tiles below), Vertical (categories in a column beside the dishes), Two modes (take the order on one screen, review the bill on the next), Simple (a calm list of categories and dish cards), Progressive (one category at a time, the order rides in a bar at the bottom) and Busy (everything at once for a fast counter: a side rail, a category strip and text tiles).
- Category levels — the same on every order screen: Automatic (the default: one row of sub-categories, until the menu has 12 or more sub-categories under two or more main categories; then staff pick a main category first), Categories and sub-categories (pick a main category, then one of its sub-categories) or Sub-categories only (every sub-category in one list, no main-category step). The pictures use your own menu’s names.
- Look — Theme: Light, Night or System (each terminal follows its own setting). Surfaces: Lines splits the screen with thin dividers, Rounded floats each part as a card.
- Ticket side — Right or Left: which side the open check sits on. Two modes and Progressive have no side ticket.
- Item view — Photos or Text tiles. With text tiles, Item name style writes names as typed, in UPPERCASE or Capitalized.
- Quick add — five items above the categories, one tap to add. Up to five Pinned items come first, in the order you set (search to pin, drag to reorder); the best sellers fill the rest. Count sales from picks which orders decide the best sellers: Today, 7 days (the default — never empty at opening) or 30 days.
- Sorting — Item order: QR menu, Best sellers or Manual (open a category and drag its dishes). Category order: QR menu or Manual (drag the numbered list). Only the till changes, never the QR menu.
- Other screens — Kitchen display: cards with a Timer chip, cards with a Big timer, or one Rail, oldest first. Cash drawer: opens on the Summary (expected cash) or the Ledger.
Set it
- 1Open POS › Settings. The Layout tab is the first one.
- 2Pick Busy, then Night under Look, then Text under Item view. The Live preview redraws as you go — it’s the real order screen, shrunk.
- 3Press Save in the bar at the bottom. You’ll see All changes saved, and every till on the restaurant picks it up on its next screen.
TipThese settings are for the whole restaurant, not per till. If the bar and the counter genuinely need different looks, System is the middle road: each iPad follows its own dark-mode setting.
