When guests order from their phones
Where a QR-menu order lands, how the till flags it, and why staff always confirm before the kitchen sees it.
1 min read
If you’ve turned on ordering from the QR menu, guests can send items to their table themselves. Those items arrive on the check unfired — a request, not a command — so the kitchen only cooks what a waiter has seen.
The scenario
Table 3 scans the QR, adds two coffees and a cake, and sends it. Nobody has been to the table yet.
What happens
- 1On every till, T3’s card shows Guest order · 3, and the Attention · 1 button at the top counts it.
- 2A waiter taps T3. The three lines are on the ticket flagged Guest request, not yet fired.
- 3They glance at the table — right people, right items — and press Fire. Or Void a line if it’s a mistake. Either way the kitchen sees nothing until a person decided.
Two switches that control this
- Cart — guests can build a basket on the QR menu. Without ordering, the basket hands off to WhatsApp or is just a wishlist.
- Ordering — guests can send that basket to their table. This needs the table to already have an open check — which only staff can open — so a passer-by scanning a code from the street can’t order onto an empty table.
TipThe universal QR code (the one without a table) shows the cart but not the send button — it tells guests to scan the code on their table instead. That’s deliberate.
