Changing your mind: editing, moving tables and voiding
What you can change before and after firing, how to move a party to another table, and how to void with a reason.
2 min read
Before a line is fired you can do anything to it. After, the kitchen already has it — so changes become voids with a reason, and the kitchen gets told.
Before firing
- Use the line’s − and + to change the quantity; at zero it’s gone. Nobody ever knew.
- Tap the line for its tools — Note changes the note while it’s still unsent.
The scenario
Table 6 has fired two pizzas. The guest changes her mind and wants a calzone instead — and the table asks to move to the bigger table by the window, T9, because friends have joined.
Void the pizza, add the calzone
- 1Tap the sent Margherita line and choose Void. Under How many to void pick 1, a reason — Customer changed mind — and whether the ingredients go back: Return ingredients to stock, or Record as waste (already made) if it was cooked. Press Void item.
- 2Press Fire void to kitchen on the check. The kitchen gets a ticket with that line marked VOID so they stop making it. On your check the line stays under Voided, so the record is honest.
- 3Add the Calzone and Fire it. Only the new line goes.
Move the party to T9
- 1Open the check’s More menu › Move or merge. The dialog is called Move check or items: Whole check, or Some items and tick just some, if only part of the table is leaving.
- 2Choose Move to table › T9. If T9 already has a check open, Merge into check puts everything on one bill.
- 3T9’s check now has everything on it; T6 is freed. Kitchen tickets already printed still say T6, so tell the pass — the next fire will say T9.
Comps and discounts on a line
- Free — the line stays on the bill at its price but is charged as 0, and it shows in reports as a comp. Use it for “we’re sorry”.
- Discount — a percentage or amount off that line. Staff can only discount up to the limit their role allows.
TipVoids after firing need a reason and are logged against the staff member. That isn’t suspicion — it’s what lets you see, at the end of the month, that Tuesday’s voids were all one broken oven.
