Creating a role and giving a waiter exactly enough
Start from a preset, cap the discount they can give, assign the staff, and let the PIN do the rest.

A role is a named bundle of permissions. Every staff member has one, and their PIN carries it onto the till — so what a person can do at the screen is decided once, calmly, in the dashboard.
The scenario
You’re promoting Dina to shift lead. She should be able to void lines and open the drawer, discount up to 15%, but not delete customers or see reports.
Make the role
- 1Open Team › Roles and press New role. Name it Shift lead. You’ll see Role created — choose its permissions.
- 2Under Start from a preset pick the closest built-in role, then tick and untick: voids on, drawer on, customer delete off, reports off.
- 3Under Discounts & comps, with a discount permission on, set Maximum discount to 15. Save — Role updated, and the role card now reads Discounts up to 15%.
Assign Dina
- 1Open Team › Staff and click Dina’s row. In her staff sheet, under Permission role, choose Shift lead.
- 2Make sure she has a PIN. Next time she unlocks a till, the new permissions are just there.
What you’ll see
- On the POS, Dina can Void a fired line; a 20% discount is refused, a 12% one goes through.
- Every void, discount and drawer movement carries her name in Team › Activity.
TipOwners can do everything and don’t need a role. Roles are for everyone else — and a role with too much in it is the thing you regret at month-end, not the thing you notice at setup.
