The daily close, read like an owner
Where the day’s money went — shifts, cash-up, variance — and how to hand it to your accountant.
2 min read
The daily close is one page that answers “did the cash add up?” without opening anything else. It’s built from settled checks and closed shifts, so it’s only as complete as your closes.
The scenario
Monday morning. You want Sunday’s numbers before the accountant asks.
Read it
- 1Open Reports › Daily close. It opens on Today; pick Yesterday from the date picker (or Custom for any other day or range), and the branch from the branch chip at the top. The page is subtitled Shifts, cash-up & the day’s money.
- 2Under Cash-up, each shift has its own card: float, cash sales, movements, counted total, Balanced / Over / Short. Press Z report on a card for the full shift report — Print prints it on the receipt printer, and Open full report gives it a page of its own. Below: sales, tenders, channels, voids and expenses. If cash on the report and cash in the safe don’t agree, this is where the difference starts.
- 3Press Export. Choose Rows — One per payment for reconciling a card terminal or a platform payout, One per order for order counts and average check — and, if you like, only some Channels, Payment methods or Delivery platforms. Download CSV. The Accounting CSV button at the top of the page is the same idea, shaped for the bookkeeper.
Three more pages worth knowing
- Analytics — four tabs, Overview, Sales, Busiest times and Guests, over any range, by branch.
- Profit — margins per dish and per day, the profit and loss down to operating profit, and a Menu performance section. It only works once your dishes have recipes, because profit needs a cost. See why the Profit page is empty. Menu engineering has its own page — see Menu engineering.
- Menu stats — the QR menu itself: scans, views, which dishes get tapped, and when. A different question from sales: what guests looked at, not what they bought.
TipA day with an unclosed shift shows as incomplete. Close the shift, and the report fills in — the numbers were always there; the count wasn’t.
