Pizzas to the oven printer, drinks to the bar

Add two printers, make two stations, and tell each category where its tickets go.

3 min read

Routing is three small things in a row: a printer (the hardware), a station (a prep area that prints to one printer), and a category that belongs to a station. Once those are set, every fired line finds its own way.

The scenario

One printer by the pizza oven, one behind the bar. Pizzas should print at the oven, drinks at the bar, and a table that orders both should produce two tickets — one each — not one long one.

Add the printers

  1. 1Open POS › Printing and press Add printer. Name it Oven, choose the Paper width — 80mm (48 chars) for most kitchen printers — and under Connection pick Network. Type its IP address (something like 192.168.1.50) and Port. Save — Printer added.
  2. 2Press Test print. You’ll see Test ticket queued for “Oven”, then Printed — check the paper. If nothing comes out, the IP is wrong or the printer is on a different network.
  3. 3Repeat for Bar. A printer plugged into a computer by USB instead is USB — the main terminal prints it if it’s plugged into the main terminal’s computer; on any other computer you need the Bridge.

Make the stations

  1. 1Under Stations press Add station. Name Oven, Printer › Oven. Save — Station added; the card reads Prints to Oven.
  2. 2Add a Bar station the same way. A station with No printer (unassigned) still shows up on the kitchen screen — it just doesn’t print.

A printer at the pass that prints the whole order

  1. 1Add the pass printer like any kitchen printer, then open its Combined ticket section and turn on Print a combined ticket. Every station covers stations you add later too; Only these stations shows chips — tap Oven and Bar. The line under the chips says what will print.
  2. 2Save. The printer row reads Combined · Oven and Bar, and each station’s card adds Also on the combined ticket at Pass. Oven and Bar keep printing their own tickets; the pass gets ONE ticket per order, with each station’s lines under its heading. A station whose own printer is the pass is folded into that ticket — never printed twice.
  3. 3No printer at the pass? On the Kitchen Display the same station set appears as a tab named after the printer, and Pick stations lets any screen choose its own set (remembered on that screen).

Point the menu at them

  1. 1Open Menu › Items. Every sub-category has a Station: set Pizzas to Oven and Drinks to Bar. You’ll see Station updated.
  2. 2A single dish can go somewhere else: open the item and set Print station. Leave it on Inherit from category (Oven) for everything that doesn’t need an exception.

What you’ll see

  • Fire a Margherita and two lemonades from T4: the oven printer prints a ticket with the pizza; the bar printer prints one with the drinks. Both say T4.
  • On the POS Kitchen Display, pick the Kitchen station and each screen shows only its own items from every ticket.
  • Changing a category’s station later only affects new fires — tickets already printed stay where they went.
TipName printers after where they stand — Oven, Pass, Bar — not after the model. When one jams at 8pm, “the Oven printer” is something a new waiter can find.
