Setting up the Bridge for USB and stubborn printers

Install the small app on a kitchen PC, approve it once, and it prints to the USB printer the main terminal can’t reach.

The Menulisa Bridge is a small app on a computer at the restaurant that relays tickets to printers. It dials out to us — no router changes — and starts itself when the computer turns on. With a Mac or Windows main terminal you only need it for a USB printer plugged into a different computer.

The scenario

The kitchen printer is an old USB model plugged into a mini-PC under the pass. It has no network port at all, and the main terminal is at the front counter.

Set it up

  1. 1On the mini-PC, open POS › Printing and, in the Bridge card, download it for macOS or Windows. Install it; it runs in the menu bar / system tray.
  2. 2Open it and choose Sign in, then Open your Dashboard. Your dashboard shows Connect a terminal for a Menulisa Bridge: check the code matches, pick the branch, type a Bridge name — Kitchen mini-PC — and press Approve & connect.
  3. 3No browser on that computer? In the Bridge choose Have a pairing token?. On the dashboard, under Pair this branch, give it a New bridge name and press Pair bridge; paste the Pairing token into the Bridge, or Download config file and use Import a config file…. The token is shown only once; if you lose it, pair again.
  4. 4Within a moment the Bridge shows Online on the dashboard. It lists the printers it finds; add the kitchen printer on the dashboard with Add printer › USB and its Windows printer name exactly as that computer lists it (for example XP-A260H). Test print.

What you’ll see

  • Tickets for that printer — from the main terminal, phones, iPads and QR orders alike — travel to the Bridge and down the USB cable.
  • In the Bridge’s Activity, every ticket says who printed it: Bridge, Main terminal (printed straight from the POS, the Bridge wasn’t involved) or Bridge · fallback.
  • If the mini-PC is off, the card says when it was last seen and its tickets wait until it comes back.
  • A stolen or retired PC: press Revoke bridge. You’ll see Revoked “Kitchen mini-PC” and it stops working instantly.
TipOne Bridge per branch is plenty — it can drive every printer in the building. Put it on the machine that is always on, not the one someone takes home.
