Printing from the main terminal — no Bridge needed

The Mac or Windows main terminal prints straight to your network and USB printers, offline too, and prints the phones’ tickets as well.

If your counter till is the Menulisa POS app for Mac or Windows, set up as the branch’s Main terminal, it is also your print server. It sends every ticket straight to the printer — no Bridge, no cloud hop — and keeps doing it when the internet is down.

The scenario

A café with a Windows till at the counter, a network printer in the kitchen, a USB receipt printer plugged into the till, and two waiters on phones. No Bridge anywhere.

Set it up

  1. 1Make sure the counter computer is the Main terminal (it asked What is this computer? at setup; you can switch it later from its Server menu).
  2. 2On POS › Printing, Add printer for the kitchen with Connection › Network and its IP address, and one for the receipts with USB and the printer’s name exactly as the till’s computer lists it. The first receipt printer is the default by itself; switch on Cash drawer on this printer if the drawer is plugged into it.
  3. 3Press Test print on each. The main terminal picks up the test and prints it.

The page’s first step still reads Pair a Menulisa Bridge and the status says Bridge not paired — with a main terminal you can skip it for these printers.

What you’ll see

  • Tickets fired on the till print at once — in the kitchen and at the counter.
  • Tickets fired on the waiters’ phones print too: an Android phone on app 1.2.0 or later sends its Fire straight to the main terminal over the Wi‑Fi, and the main terminal picks up the rest (iPhones, iPads, QR orders) from the cloud for the printers it can reach.
  • When the internet drops, the till keeps printing its own tickets and the Android phones’ — they reach it over the Wi‑Fi. Tickets from iPhones and iPads, which need the internet, wait until it’s back.
  • A ticket that might already have printed is never printed twice by itself — reprint it by hand if the paper says otherwise.

When you still want a Bridge

  • A USB printer plugged into another computer (not the main terminal).
  • No Mac or Windows main terminal at all — browsers, iPads or phones only.
  • As a backup: if the main terminal can’t reach a network printer the Bridge has printed to in the last week, the ticket goes to the Bridge instead.

Running both is safe — each ticket is printed once. See setting up the Bridge.

TipAdditional terminals (other Macs and PCs) don’t print by themselves: their tickets go through the main terminal, so keep it on during service.
