Letting guests order — and call a waiter — from the menu

The four switches on the Ordering page, what each turns on, and what the guest then sees on their phone.

2 min read

The QR menu can be a menu, a menu with a cart, or a menu guests order from. Four switches on Menu › Ordering decide which — and one of them lets a seated guest ping a waiter.

The switches

  • Enable cart — guests can add items to a cart. With ordering off, they build a cart to show staff but can’t place the order themselves.
  • Enable ordering — guests can place the order from their cart. It goes to the table’s open check for staff to confirm. The page insists: Turn on the cart first — ordering happens from the cart.
  • Send carts to WhatsApp — the cart hands off to your WhatsApp instead. Good for takeaway when you don’t run the POS.
  • Enable “Call service” — seated guests can ping staff (waiter, bill, water). Only shows on tables with an open check; you can turn it off per table from the POS. Whose phone rings is set on the Alerts tab of POS › Settings.
  • Kitchen slammed? The Guest ordering switch on Menu › QR codes pauses ordering (Ordering paused) while the menu stays visible. These switches apply to the whole restaurant — there’s no per-branch ordering switch.

The scenario

You want guests at tables to order and to call for the bill — but nobody scanning the door poster should be able to send anything.

What the guest sees

  1. 1They scan the table code and tap a dish: Add to cart. The bar at the bottom reads View cart; inside, their name, Order notes (which reach the waiter and the kitchen ticket) and Place order. Tips and promo codes are handled at payment, on the POS.
  2. 2They press Place order and see Order placed! On the POS the lines arrive as a Guest request for a waiter to fire — see when guests order from their phones.
  3. 3Later they tap Call service and choose the bill. The phone of the waiter who opened the check buzzes, the table glows on the counter’s floor plan, and if nobody answers in time every phone on shift rings — see who gets a guest’s call.
  4. 4After paying: Rate your experience, a few words, then Submit review, and they see Thanks for your feedback! — and, if you’ve set a Google review URL, Review us on Google.
TipThe door poster is safe by design: the main QR has no table, so it shows the cart but never the send button, whatever the switches say.
