Sending goods back to a supplier
Record a return against a delivery — the stock comes off at once and the credit owed back is on record.

Sometimes part of a delivery has to go back: damaged, wrong item, past its date. A return takes it off your stock and records what the supplier owes you, in one step.
The scenario
Wednesday’s delivery from Metro Wholesale had two crates of tomatoes that arrived crushed. The driver takes them back and promises a credit note.
Record it
- 1Open Inventory › Purchasing, find Wednesday’s order and choose Return from its menu. (The option appears once goods on the order have been received. For goods not tied to one order, press New return instead.)
- 2The dialog Return goods — the order’s reference opens with the supplier filled in. Under Reference (optional) type the credit-note number; under Note (optional), why it went back — crushed in transit.
- 3Set the tomatoes’ Qty to the two crates and check the Credit. The total shows as Credit owed back. It warns you: Recording this deducts the returned quantities from stock immediately.
- 4Press Record return — Return recorded — stock updated.
What you’ll see
- The Returns tab lists it with its details and Credit — a read-only record of what went back.
- The tomatoes’ stock dropped by the returned amount; their average cost didn’t change.
TipA return is recorded in one step — there’s no “pending” state. Record it when the goods actually leave, and put the credit-note number in the reference so the accountant can match it.
