The kitchen screen on a busy night

Cooking, done here, ready to serve — and what Recall is for when a plate went out too early.

2 min read

The POS has a Kitchen Display: a live board of every fired ticket, split into what’s cooking and what’s plated. It replaces the printer for kitchens that prefer a screen, or runs beside it.

The scenario

Friday, 8pm. The hot line has a screen. The pass has another. A waiter carries a dish out before the second one for that table is done.

Read the board

  • Pick a Kitchen station at the top — Oven, Bar — or All stations. Each station sees only its own items from every ticket, so the bar isn’t staring at pizzas.
  • Three columns: Cooking, Done here (this station has finished its part), and Ready to serve (every station has). The header counts 4 cooking · 2 ready.
  • Removals print louder than anything: NO ONION. Voids arrive with a Void badge so the cook stops. Courses show as Course 1, Course 2.
  • A Live pill means updates stream in without a refresh; Reconnecting… means the WiFi blinked and it’s catching up.

Work it

  1. 1The oven finishes T4’s pizza: press Ready on the ticket. It moves to Done here; once the bar marks the drinks too, the whole ticket is Ready to serve.
  2. 2The runner takes it: press Serve. It leaves the board.
  3. 3The plate went out too early — the risotto isn’t done. Press Recall (or, from the pass, Recall to kitchen). The ticket comes back to Cooking instead of vanishing into history.
TipThe dashboard has a simpler view too — POS › Orders, with New, Preparing and Ready tiles and a next-step button on each order (Mark preparing, Mark ready, Mark served) — for an owner checking on the kitchen from the office. The one that cooks work from is the POS Kitchen Display.
